Cisco’s Future Focuses On Cloud, SDN
Cisco reported on Wednesday that its earnings grew 44% during the second fiscal quarter, which ended Jan. 26. Despite ongoing restructuring efforts and the perils of a fragile global economy, the San Jose, Calif.-based networking giant brought in $ 12.1 billion in revenue, a 5% year-over-year increase.
Having slightly exceeded analyst expectations, the company must now maintain momentum as it evolves from a networking hardware company to a supplier of cloud management platforms, video communication tools and other emerging IT services.

Cloud Security Measures Too Opaque For Customers
The apparent cost benefits and flexibility of cloud services may have convinced companies’ front offices to dive into the cloud, but convincing corporate security teams is another matter.
Nearly seven out of eight information-technology professionals do not trust cloud providers to protect their companies’ most sensitive data, according to a recent survey conducted by Lieberman Software, a provider of privileged access management products. The majority would not trust cloud providers with their own personal data, either.

VMware Enhances vSphere for SMBs
VMware on Tuesday announced a new vSphere virtualization platform line that incorporates the standard edition of its vCenter Operations Management Suite.
VMware vSphere with Operations Management adds the management and reporting capabilities of vCenter Operations to the existing vSphere platform. VMware marketing manager Mike Adams described the new vSphere line as a logical next step after last year’s launch of vCloud, the company’s software-defined data center play aimed at large enterprises.
