With Internet back-haul switches being asked to handle exponentially more traffic, most service provider and Internet back-haul networks are going to completely skip over the 40 GbE step and go straight to 100 GbE. Broadcom has introduced a new line of switch processors that can be reprogrammed to add new functionality to the switch and support new protocols as they come along.

Backing Up Cloud Apps
When I first heard that Backupify had developed a backup service for cloud applications like Facebook, I must admit I snickered a little at the thought of someone thinking that Facebook data was worth backing up to anyone but Facebook. When they called again and said they could now backup Google apps, they got my attention.

Should You Worry About Google Drive Privacy?
The wording of the Google Drive terms of service has ruffled some feathers. However, the short answer to the question posed in the title of this article is “no”. Allow me to explain.
Google Drive finally unveiled its long-rumored cloud data storage service, Google Drive. The wording of the terms of services claims that Google reserves the right to “use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute” content uploaded to their services.

The Role of Storage in IBM’s New PureSystems
In the PureSystems launch, we saw the opening salvo in IBM’s use of expert integrated systems to reduce IT complexity and reduce costs. PureSystems strengthen an already strong bond between the company’s system ‘horse’, which does the CPU pulling, and the storage ‘carriage’, which carries the information payload.
