30 Days With the Cloud: Day 3
I’m a writer. It makes sense, then, that finding a cloud-based tool to substitute for my trusty Microsoft Word is priority one on this “30 Days With the Cloud” journey. A word processor is rarely an island unto itself, though, so choosing one means selecting a complete productivity suite, including word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation tools.

November 9, 2011 at 12:16 pm Blue Coat Systems, Inc. is enhancing its MACH5 WAN optimization and virtual appliances so that branch or remote office customers can apply Web security from Blue Coat Cloud Service to enable ‘branch-to-cloud’ direct Internet access rather than back-haul Internet traffic to and from the corporate data center. A branch-to-cloud topology lowers networking costs and speeds access to cloud-based SaaS applications, says the company.

November 9, 2011 at 12:14 am I recently had the pleasure of attending a press and analyst day with the good folks from Spectra Logic, where the state of the market for tape storage finally sunk in. While most corporate users have evolved their backup processes to reduce, or eliminate, their reliance on tape, users with lots of data still find tape to be the best solution. F. Scott Fitzgerald once said “The rich are different” and that’s true for those that are rich in data as well.

November 7, 2011 at 6:14 pm 30 Days With the Cloud: Day 2
The first step in spending 30 days relying on cloud-based tools and services is to explore my options and choose the ones I want to use to work and live online. Email and writing are the most crucial functions of my PC for me, so I am going to start by finding suitable online options for email and writing. Actually, I planned to start there, but I ran into a little hiccup–my PC won’t cooperate.
