Data management software vendor Splunk released version 4.2 of its solution for analyzing the massive amounts of data that are coursing through enterprise computer networks. The product is intended to help organize and search the data not just to manage the operation of the IT infrastructure but to measure how the business is actually doing. New Virtela Technology Uses ‘Predictive Analytics’ To Head Off Network Outages
An IT infrastructure management services provider has introduced new technology that it says can identify and prevent problems that could interrupt service. Virtela Technology Services says its VirtelaPredict technology continuously monitors network event logs and other performance metrics, and, using complex algorithms, can identify early warning signs that could lead to an outage.

Ponemon Auditors’ Survey Reveals Poor Opinion Of Security Programs
Auditors generally take a dim view of the data security programs at organizations that they audit, according to a Ponemon Institute survey sponsored by Thales eSecurity. Only about one-third of the respondents said that the organizations are proactive in managing privacy and data protection risks. Further, three of five say they don’t feel data security is a strategic priority. Fewer than half believe these organizations have sufficient resources to meet their data compliance requirements. The net outcome is that half the audits they conduct reveal serious deficiencies or compliance failures.
