Interop New York 2011 is upon us. Starting October 3rd and running through October 7th, UBM’s Interop show sill be taking place at the Javits Center. It going to be a full week starting with pre-conference days on virtualisation, cloud computing, and CIO boot camp. Wednesday through Friday, the conference kicks off with three full days of in depth sessions and panels covering virtually every aspect of IT. The expo hall will be open Wednesday and Thursday so you can meet with vendors and see the latest gear. Box.net Now Offers a Mac Client
Today is the inaugural Box.net conference for customers and developers–BoxWorks. Box.net CEO and co-founder used the event to announce a slew of new features and updates, as well as a few key partnerships.

Qlogic Fabric Freedom Equals More Convergence
The path to converged networking has to date been driven mostly from the networking side of the street. While we can argue whether Fiber Channel over Ethernet is more Fibre Channel or Ethernet, there’s no argument that Cisco’s been its biggest cheerleader. QLogic Sets The Stage For Networking’s Future
Networking and ASIC developer QLogic is building out its Adaptive Convergence strategy with new adapters, switches and routers that power 16Gb Fibre Channel or 10Gb data center Ethernet networks from the same hardware. The company’s portfolio offers ‘any-to-any’ connectivity by building in TCP/IP, iSCSI, FCoE and native Fibre Channel. The announcements included FlexSuite adapters, Universal Access Point switches and intelligent Storage Routers (iSR).

Piston Announces Enterprise Cloud OS
Piston Cloud Computing, Inc. is throwing its hat into the OpenStack-based open-source cloud arena with the release of pentOS (Piston Enterprise OSTM), ‘an easy, secure and open cloud operating system for managing enterprise private cloud environments.’ The new company and its initial offering are the inspirations of Josh (Joshua) McKenty, the chief architect of NASA’s Nebula Cloud Computing Platform, which formed the cornerstone of the OpenStack project, of which he sits on the Project Policy Board.

Most Organizations Fall Short On PCI DSS, Verizon Reports
This year’s Verizon 2011 Payment Card Industry Compliance Report validates the findings of the first report issued last year: About one in five organizations for which Verizon provided QSA services were fully compliant in their Initial Report on Compliance (IROC), but the balance were found lacking, on average passing about 80% of the QSA evaluation tests.

OpenStack.org Releases Open Source Cloud Stack Dubbed ‘Diablo’
OpenStack.org, a group developing an open source stack to deliver cloud computing, has released the fourth iteration of its project Diablo, which adds 70 new features to three main components of the project: OpenStack Compute for cloud computing cycles; OpenStack Storage for data storage; and OpenStack Image Service, for establishing, tracking and maintaining virtual machine images.

NetEx Addition Of Hyper-V Support A Game-Changer
The addition of Microsoft Hyper-V support to the NetEx HyperIP WAN optimization virtual appliance solution will be greeted with open arms by customers using the Microsoft Windows Server 2008 platform. Originally expected to ship last year, shortly after the company unveiled the appliance supporting the VMWare ESX hypervisor, it is now a part of HyperIP Version 6.0.
