HP Storage Blitz Leverages 3PAR Acquisition
HP is building on the storage-related portion of January’s CloudSystem announcement with the integration of 3PAR Utility Storage across the company’s Converged Infrastructure portfolio. With features like automated storage tiering and thin storage offerings to eliminate over-provisioning, the integration will enable clients to optimize cloud delivery and help it consolidate its storage hardware and respond to continuing data growth, according to HP. The company also says that it has simplified data management and provided a lower total cost of ownership.

Backup Rule #7: Encrypt Your Backups
Last week I opened my newspaper (yes, I still read the news on paper) to see a report of, once again, a major data breach caused by a batch of backup tapes being lost in transit to the warehouse. At the very least, I had hoped that the system administrators at large organizations that hold the most personal of all information would have gotten the word to encrypt their backup tapes, but this piece of news and the results of our InformationWeek Analytics Backup Survey have proven me wrong.

What The Pink Elephant Told Me About ITIL
Having spent the last week at perhaps the world’s largest Information Technology Services Management (ITSM) conference, my eyes were opened a little wider to some pretty amazing transformations afoot across the IT landscape. I did come home feeling a bit uneasy about the future of my day job as an IT professional. I also came away with both an appreciation for the ITSM consulting and training company Pink Elephant and an equal part confusion about some of the mixed messages I heard at this most excellent of events. Given that much of what was discussed hits squarely at how mobile technology and its use is causing a sea change for IT, I feel compelled to share what I took away from the conference.
